As the president of Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh Kaski, and chairman of Himalaya Eye Hospital, it is my immense pleasure to shed some light on brief history of this hospital. Himalaya Eye Hospital was established in 1993 by Foundation of Eye Care Himalaya Netherlands under Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, with the sole aim of providing effective eye care services particularly in the Himalayan region at a reasonable and affordable price as well as producing qualified manpower required for the patients of eye sector in Nepal. I am much pleased to refer to the fact that Himalaya Eye Hospital has successfully completed 24 years of its sincere services and entered into 25 years. At this auspicious moment, we are much happy as we are celebrating its 25th anniversary, i.e. the silver jubilee of this institution. Since its establishment till date, the hospital has rendered its sincere services to 14,94,985 patients, and has also provided operation services to 79,693 patients. The services so rendered from the hospital ranged from 8315 out-patients and 374 surgery services to 1,20,710 out patients and 4,326 surgery services per year. Though it is an appreciable achievement, there is much to do for the people who are devoid of eye-care services in our working areas.
I feel proud to mention the fact that with an aim of uplifting Himalaya Eye Hospital to a referral centre for this region, the management committee has made its vigorous efforts to equip the hospital with advanced technology and equipments. With the sincere help and support of Central Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, Helping Institutes, Donors, Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh Kaski, the Himalaya Eye Hospital has been able to reach the present status it has.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Eye Care Foundation Netherlands for fulfilling our hopes and aspirations, and thus materializing our mission. I am also thankful to Gorkha Welfare Scheme, Lion’s Club International, Local Lion’s Club, Rotary Clubs and Local NGOs for their co-operation and look forward to receiving further support for its future progress and prosperity.
Finally I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the ophthalmologists, staff members (both technical and non-technical) members of Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, Kaski and well-wishers of this institution. Thank you very much!
