The field of oculoplasty, also known as oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery, is a subspeciality of ophthalmology that focuses on the management of conditions affecting the eyelids, orbit, lacrimal (tear) system, and surrounding facial structures. At Himalaya eye hospital, the oculoplasty unit is dedicated to providing comprehensive care for both functional and cosmetic conditions affecting the eyes and face. Prof Dr Eliya Shrestha is leading the clinics.
Oculoplasty unit specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of conditions, including:
Eyelid disorders– ptosis (droopy eyelids), entropion, ectropion, eyelid tumours, and blepharospasm.
Lacrimal system disorders – tear duct obstruction, excessive tearing (epiphora), and dacryocystitis.
Orbital diseases – Thyroid eye disease, tumours.
Cosmetic and reconstructive surgery – Blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), brow-lifts.
Trauma management – repair of eyelid and orbital injuries for functional and aesthetic restoration.
In addition to patient care, the unit is actively involved in fellowship training, workshops and clinical research. We aim to enhance surgical techniques, introduce innovative procedures and improve patient outcomes.
